Hipster Beard and Wooly Hair

"Hipster Jesus"
I asked some of my residents, friends, and co-workers various questions about their perception of Jesus. Some of them gave me answers that I expected while the rest them challenged my established thought process. The three questions that I asked them were:
1. How do you see Jesus?
2. How do you see Jesus represented?
3. How do you think other people see Jesus?
All of the answers ranged from physical descriptions to descriptions about energies and personality. Another interesting factor that caught my attention was place. Because these people that I interviewed are from Louisiana, I cannot help but believe that Jesus is presented to them differently than in Idaho. Mention of Catholicism's dominance in Lafayette and Acadiana helped me to understand that the culturally unique Louisiana also has a unique image of Jesus. Overall, I learned that the way we (I'm intentionally including myself here) perceive Jesus is dependent on more than what we read. A culture in which religion is deeply rooted has a great impact on how we view Jesus as Louisianans.
