On Fire for Christ...literally you are burning.

We have all seen them outside in free speech alley on a Tuesday or a Thursday. Yelling and screaming damnation and fiery hell. Why? What has cause these people to scream such terrifying things about Jesus. They bring to Christianity things unavoidable fear. That there is this vengeful and wrathful God that will tear you and the world apart unless you follow Him. It is presented in a way that makes refusing God almost unthinkable because the outcome of not it so horrible. True, being a Christian, I do believe that without salvation we are damned to hell but that is not how I would portray this story and yet this is the face of Christ that most people hold to when it comes to having a conversation about Christianity.

I have had many conversation that when it turns to religion and I tell them what I believe they almost always say "Well, are you going to scream I am going to hell." I shocks me that this is face that seems to have to most impact with how others view the Christian faith. It is almost not fair for the people who are not Christians. I want to share this joy that I have experienced and yet they are more afraid then willing to at least hear me out. I find this picture to the bottom right hilarious because I am currently taking a fiction class in which we read comics. Am I going to hell even though I have said to claim my salvation? This is the very thing that just irks me beyond belief. You say that you believe one thing and yet you preach a different message.

"Men are moved by two levers only: Fear and self interest." That is a quote from Napoleon Bonaparte. Is this the face of Christianity now fear? Is that what some would believe is the best way to share the gospel? Has Jesus become this wrathful judge that is going to bring down the hammer on any who do not accept him? There is so much more to this story and yet I fear that in the near future this is the face of Christ that will be plastered on most Christian ideas.
