I think that Berry's recommendation encourages people to depoliticize nature and the environment and analyze it from a more personal perspective. This takes the topic from a sphere that is unattainable to the average person and is an issue for politicians and authority figures only and makes it an issue with any theological or ethical beliefs.   Although I think it is a wise recommendation for people to critically think about the world around them, I think it is a difficult goal to reach. Politics so heavily infiltrates peoples opinions on both religious and environmental issues that it is too difficult to dissociate the ideals regarding the topics and make them strictly ethical.

I feel as though one of the major relevant issues on this topic is Pope Francis' opinions on humanity and the decline of the environment. Although this is not specifically United States issue, he comments on how the state of the earth will improve if we stop fighting, physically and politically, and follow our morals to reunite humanity and, in turn, improve the environment. Overall, the concept of focusing on more on peoples true opinions and the ideas of specific individuals would greatly benefit us and our relationship with the environment, however it is too difficult to make the issues separate.
