Choose to discuss either Chapter 3 or Chapter 4.
In Chapter 3, Berry describes how some Christians viewed nature as sacred space. What kinds of natural environments were more likely to be interpreted as sacred, and why? Which groups of Christians were more likely to identify the sacred in nature? Today, do these same Christian traditions associate the sacred with nature to a similar degree, and why or why not?
In Chapter 4, Berry explains how some Christians had spiritual experiences in nature through recreational activities. What does Berry mean by "nature spirituality," how was it made manifest in the lives of some Americans, and how have these forms of meaningful recreation continued to influence today's activities in nature?
