In modern times, the government of the US heavily invests and promotes its national parks and forests as places to enjoy Rousseau’s idea of simple pleasures, and few support the ideas of Augustine. I haven't visited many churches but I do believe many christians like the ideas of observing nature, rather than condemning it, but I am sure a few radicals show disdain.

Whither Religion
The first Chapter of Devoted to Nature by Evan Berry is not what I expected the book is noted to be about environmentalism, but the first chapter isn't about Nature in that sense but rather the philosophical debate of Nature of Reality and the Nature of Man, and then therefore how that relates to Mankind's relation to Nature. It didn't really feel focused on the aspects of environmentalism other than saying it is good or evil. It focused more on the idea of these philosophies over the course of history. It honestly doesn't feel like a good introduction (Sans the actual introduction) to this kind of book, especially for those who aren't versed in the philosophy of Religion. The nature of Human Depravity is debated between Augustine and Rousseau. Augustine believes that the natural world is not a way to seek God especially through one's own body. Rousseau believes that the body is important and that it is important to self love, but to not fall for the distractions of other people that is of sin not the entirety of nature, rather nature is good in it's simple pleasures.
