Johnson and Nixon both had taken different approaches to religion during their campaigns. In the case of both they were protestant, but only one would push for votes with religion as a focal point. Johnson was keen to use the idea of being a moral person rather than a devote Christian as a way to swing him votes. And during his reign their was a sense of moral overtones in his decisions in office which also had to do with his personality. On the opposite side you have Nixon who was more likely to use religion in his campaign in order to win the Protestant votes. This would label him as a more devote Christian in terms of his time in office. The part were these decisions came in to affect most was in political decisions and the Vietnam War. Each would take a different approach to these topics and are seen to have used their connection to religion and morality to help make their choices.
